Oil-and-Gasoline Resistant Extended Electrode EPM is used for electrochemical protection solutions as impressed current anode.
The product is a linear cylindrical electrode consisting of one or two shells made of an electrically conductive elastomer, inside which there is a metal core serving as a current conductor.
EPM is manufactured in the following versions:
Standard - extended electrode with a cable connected to both ends. It is used at linear-type facilities.
Modular version - a piece of electrode, which ends are connected to each other by a cable for use under the bottom of tanks.
The electrode can be packed in a shell with an anode space activator, which increases the current spreading area and makes the installation process simple and convenient.
Purpose
They are designed for use at the facilities of main pipelines in cathodic protection systems:
a) at the linear part of main pipelines, laid in soils/flooded soils, with a specific electrical resistance of more than 350 Ohm∙m, as well as in rocky and permafrost soils:
- for pipelines;
- for block valve stations and pipeline fittings;
- for pig receivers/pig launcher and diagnostics;
b) for the structures of oil pumping stations;
c) for tank substructure protection.
Advantages
The design features of the electrodes allow the following:
- forming a protective field of the required configuration, controlling the mode of protective current drainage, which means to ensure a uniform distribution of the protective potential along the length and surface of the protected item at the minimum required level, while maintaining its insulated coating;
- ensuring the minimum resistance of the anode circuit in soils, practically, with any specific electrical resistance;
- forming stray currents and preventing the screening effect of objects not included in the protection system;
- excluding (or minimizing) at underwater crossings the screening effect of the protective electric field disrupting the natural fish migration (including spawning);
- electrodes are resistant to the effects of an electrolytic environment with a pH of 3.5 to 11, oil and oil products, ozone, oxygen and other types of exposure to aggressive media and aging;
- the electrically conductive elastomer is chemically inert; when carbon materials are triggered, carbon dioxide is formed, which ensures environmental friendliness;
- the service life of extended electrodes is at least 30 years;
- they fit into a common trench with the pipe during construction of new or reconstruction of existing pipelines with a diameter of up to 350 mm;
- due to their flexibility and design properties, extended electrodes are convenient for installation and are perfect for laying along pipes and under the bottoms of tanks.
